Introduction

Facing History and Myself
An Introduction

Facing History has been one of the most worthwhile courses I have ever taken. The course is an in-depth look at the Holocaust; its causes and effects. It is a course about the difference that people’s action or inaction made to millions of others. It is predominantly a course about people, both then and now.  Many in our society believe that the past has no effect on the way things are. This course has shown me, personally, how wrong those people are. I have seen families torn apart, mothers dying with the children, and innocent men shot on sight simply for being different. I chose to take the course because everyone that I asked has had nothing but great things to say about it. I decided I would give it a try.  What I have gained from taking this course has forever changed my perspective on many things that I have not even had thoughts about. The course simply humbled me. Being seventeen and in America, many people, myself included, have a slight arrogance about life. We take many things for granted. What this course has done is it opened my eyes a little to the outside world. I am a junior at Westborough High School, I am of Russian descent and I am also Jewish and the things that Facing History has shown me, I can never and would never forget.  I have a different perspective on many issues now and, most important of all, I learned a little about myself and came to conclusions that I believe would not have been made without this course.
